Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of Osteopathy?

Osteopaths take a holistic approach when treating the body. As such, the benefits of this practice are vast, ranging from relief from pain caused by musculoskeletal problems (involving muscles and/or joints) to the treatment of intestinal and chronic infectious diseases. Other benefits of Osteopathy include:

  • An increase in joint mobility
  • Easing of muscular tightness
  • Pain alleviation
  • An increase of blood supply to the body’s tissues
  • Assisting and quickening the body’s healing
What's the difference between Osteopathy and Chiropractic?

A chiropractor treats joint discomfort by making adjustments to the spine to improve its alignment and overall function.

Osteopaths, on the other hand, have a more holistic approach to therapy, treating the entire body and any structures that are imbalanced, whether that be tendons, ligaments, muscles or joints, in order to resolve the pain and prevent recurrence.

Osteopaths are also great at explaining their clinical findings and helping their patients understand what has caused their problem in order to avoid future relapse.

Is Osteopathy painful?

Osteopaths strive to make the treatment as comfortable as possible, but bear in mind if an area is very painful it’s difficult in the first treatment not to cause some discomfort whilst treating it.

Your therapist will advise you of any expected discomfort caused by the techniques used and you will feel noticeably better after the first treatment session. However, if you are in any kind of pain during treatment, you should always let your therapist know.

Get in touch today to discuss your symptoms, and our friendly team will be on hand to recommend the most suitable treatment route for you.
